Q: Tell us about The Accessory Place. How did you get involved?

A: After years of shopping for my design clients at The Accessory Place, the owners and I decided to join forces.  I moved my Design Team and remodeled the Design Department space to accommodate the entire team. It was a natural fit.

As you may know, The Accessory Place is Houston’s leading provider of fine home furnishings, artwork, accessories, gifts, and dazzling silk floral arrangements. We carry lovely seasonal decorations like silk flowers, greenery, candles and candle holders, and accent pillows. We’ve been furnishing Houston area homes for close to 30 years!

Bold Colors Art Hot Trends in 2022 Says Sheila Lyons of The Accessory Place in Houston Texas

Q: What are the top home décor trends you and The Accessory Place design team are seeing this year?

A:  Bold Colors are a definite trend right now. Especially vibrant greens, citron, and deep purple eggplant colorways. We’re also seeing straight lines in home décor and the use of metals and acrylic in accessories. Our store features merchandise from over 450 furniture and home accessory vendors, so we carry lots of options if you want to come and see what is currently popular right now.

Q: What are the best ways to transform a room from blah to OMG fab?

A: You can do some simple things to transform a room to make a big impact. Start by painting the walls a fabulous color. If you need advice with picking a color, we can help! Be sure to invest in good-quality paint. There are many dazzling new colors to choose from, and with a bit of guidance, you can pick just the right one to bring your rooms together.

Another thing you can do is add new accent pillows and accessories to compliment the new color. You’ll be surprised what a few decorative cushions can do to revive a room. In addition, consider lighting updates. A modern chandelier or wall sconce can make a room feel new. Filling the space at the top of the room is essential, and a fabulous chandelier can help you do that.

Our interior designers provide in-home consultations for those struggling to make décor decisions and would be happy to schedule some time with you to guide you in your selections. We can help with purchasing decisions for any budget and which items are most important to invest in, such as seating and upholstery.

Q: What are some of the latest & luxurious décor accessories you’ve seen? Does The Accessory Place source them?

A: Luxurious décor like beautiful blown glass shown in various colors is pretty and popular. Also, alabaster in light fixtures, as well as accessories, brings texture to a room. Metals in gold and silver are on trend right now as well. Yes, we most definitely have many of the latest accessories in the store and we have top name sources for lighting, glassware, vases, and accessories of all kinds. At The Accessory Place, we also specialize in seasonal items for all holidays, and those are always fun to explore.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

I like dropping by Ulta Beauty and seeing what’s new there. They often have deals and sales of the month to take advantage of. Also, the Learning Express is a great place to get my grandchildren’s treats. They carry lots of fun things kids love, from puzzles and stuffed animals to books and games to keep the kids busy for hours.

Where do you like to dine at Town & Country?

There are lots of great places to dine at TCV! One of my favorite things to do is meet friends for dinner at McCormick & Schmicks. My husband and I always enjoy a great dining experience with good company. They have an extensive seafood menu in addition to their steaks. You can let them know how you want your fish prepared: grilled, broiled, or pan-seared. The last time we dined at M&S, we thoroughly enjoyed the Parmesan Crusted Flounder and Herb Broth Sea Bass. We love the friendly wait staff, and their service is always superb.

What is your fave place to get a coffee or a cold drink?

I like having brunch at La Madelaine. I love to have coffee or tea with my brunch, and on occasion, I treat my family to pastries from their fantastic bakery selections. And my personal favorite is the chocolate almond croissant.

Where do you like to go to relax?

Taking a walk and browsing can be relaxing! There are so many good stores you can pop into at Town & Country Village. I like to walk over to Chico’s and browse what’s new. There’s a bit of everything, from casual to professional wear and everything in between. I also love to see what’s new at French Cuff. They always have the latest fashions and ultra-stylish accessories, including artistic jewelry.

What are some other things you like to do after a day’s work at The Accessory Place?

I am a big fan of mysteries, so I like to stop at Barnes & Noble to check out the latest mystery novels. I’m stocking up for Spring and Summer bedside reading now. Hot on my list is the new James Patterson novel, written with Dolly Parton, called “Run, Rose, Run.” There’s also a new book in the popular Stephanie Plum mystery series by author Janet Evanovich. Barnes & Noble is always fun for browsing and seeing what’s new! And the café is another great place to get a coffee.
